Rockville United Methodist Church's 175 Anniversary
How Many Candles Fit on a Cake?
Happy Birthday Rockville United Methodist Church! If you haven’t heard, this year is our 175th anniversary. What an amazing milestone for which to thank God and to celebrate.
I doubt I could bake a cake large enough for 175 candles, nor would I ask someone to blow them out, but we will find plenty of ways to celebrate RUMC’s birthday. A committee has been at work since the beginning of the year to plan and coordinate remembrances.
So far, our plans include:
• A spring carnival being organized by Keshika Dias;
• A “living history” re-enactment of a 19th century circuit-riding service;
• Participating in an historic church tour sponsored by Peerless Rockville; and a banquet.
Throughout the year, we also plan to highlight historic hymns, share tidbits from RUMC’s history, sponsor displays, and perhaps have some mementos available for purchase. The committee has also reached out to Jerusalem-Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church to coordinate anniversary remembrances given our shared history.
Did we miss something? If you have an idea about how we can celebrate RUMC’s birthday, please share it with a member of the committee:
• Jennifer Martin;
• Dianne O’Donovan;
• Maizie Rocke;
• Patrick Woodward; and
• Cindy Wright.
Let’s have a great year as we celebrate RUMC’s history and service to the community, thank God for His continuing grace, and look to the future.
